Geology[]

Anul was formed at about the same time as Crystaldeep in the early years of the Kelos System origin. Gravitational influence condensed the bodies from a nebula and they fell in synchronous orbit with each other. Essentially a solid ball of rock, Anul had no tectonic activity like Crystaldeep did and survived as a punching bag for formative meteorites. The northern hemisphere of Anul cooled more slowly then the southern and so is far more smooth than the crater-pocked southern regions.

There are three major plains in the northern region: Sillow Planitia, Terrace Planitia, and the Great Anulese Basin. Separated by older and higher ground, these plains are the favored location of Anul's larger biodomes. The largest crater on Anul, Temple's Pit, is located in the southern region, along with other large craters: Romelius, Tonsan, and Govi. Toward the south pole is the largest mountain on Anul, Lympu Montes, reaching 9.4 centipars.

Anul consists mostly of iron, aluminum and various calcites. There is some metal mining on Anul, but it isn't enough to demand a major industry.

Life[]

Anul is completely void of life and cannot naturally support it. All settlements on the moon are in biodomes with a few underground settlements as well. Life cannot live unprotected on the moon, and even with protection being outside a biodome during a solar wind storm can prove to be fatal. The majority of the sentient population are Kelosians, however many Helics and Highlords live in the biodomes as well. There are some livestock raised from Crystaldeep to help sustain the biodomes, and domesticated creatures, but no wildlife has been legally brought to the moon. Additionally, livestock not found on Crystaldeep is generally not found on Anul either.

Politics[]

Anul is completely run by the Congress of Crystaldeep and there are no independent nations that have exclusive property here. Considered "civilized" space, the Stellar Corps actively enforces Congressional Law all over the moon. The major cities, Mada City, in particular, are run by Congressional Governors, appointed by the Congress of Crystaldeep.

Although there is certainly a military presence, Anul is left open for enterprising and so endorses economic relationships with other planets of the system. Kept out of the wartime theaters, the moon is relatively protected and considered an extension of Crystaldeep itself. All trade and travel is carefully regulated by the Pangalactic Trade Commission (PTC). The codes are as strict as they are on Crystaldeep and so very little interstellar activity reaches the moon. However, it is a hub of activity between other worlds regulated by the PTC.

The Congressional Governor of Anul, currently Kline Overtree, allows the cities to elect Lieutenant Governors to run their specific communities. The candidates for election, however, are appointed by the Governor. As with other Congressional territories, the Governor is the end result of policy and implementation on the moon, however is balanced by a World Congress and appointed judges. Any interplanetary issues are handled by the PTC or in the case of military threats, the Stellar Corps. The Congress of Crystaldeep can implement policy on Anul, however the Governor generally has a say or vote on those cases. Generally, the Congress of Crystaldeep allows Governors to run their provinces with little regulation.

Trade and Economy[]

Anul works very closely with Crystaldeep not only politically, but economically. It has become a veritable extension of the planet and is used primarily by enterprises wishing to operate under Congressional Law, independent from a specific nation or government influence. In addition to Crystaldeep, there are many political partnerships betwen Mada City and Eve City, exchanging services for oil.

Although many interterrestrial organizations operate on Anul, there are not many interstellar ones. Operating so close to Crystaldeep means great scrutiny by the PTC and Stellar Corps. It is very difficult to conduct business on Anul if one is not a Crystaldeep Native.

Despite the restrictions, there is a very healthy capitalistic economy on Anul, generally surrounding the industrial sector. Although there are metal mining operations, it is localized and not regulated heavily by the United Miner's Guild. Major industries include research and development, technology, technology support, and manufacturing. Some of the system's most profitable factories exist in Mada City and a hospitality movement surrounds that industry.

History[]

The first settlement on Anul was Station Mada. The station was the first part of a two-tier program administered by the Congress of Crystaldeep. It was the first attempt to settle extra-terrestrially and was part of a much bigger plan to set up military operations all over the Kelos System. Station Mada was originally settled by government officials and scientists.

In a short period of time private interests and nations began settling on Anul, mostly networking out of Station Mada that increasingly became the hub. The cities that were born out of these settlements were primarily underground, but many had biodomes and tunnels connecting each other. This technological development was not without its faults and it took decades to keep breeches out and the environment preserved.

Station Mada is now Mada City and there are over 3 million inhabitants, many of which were born on Anul. The Congress of Crystaldeep has a base of operations there and the largest congressional military base is also located there. Many military tests are taken from Mada City to the highlands and distant parts of the lowlands.

Founded in 22026 GST, Station Mada was erected in the lowlands, where the gentle plains provided for easy construction. Under its military operation, several advancements were made, including sophisticated EVA equipment, and weapon systems. Due to overpopulation on Crystaldeep and increasing interest in extraterrestrial activity, the military turned Station Mada over to private interests in 22072 GST.

In just under thirty years, many corporations and independent contractors developed four very large biodomes to support the onslaught of lunar immigration. Now called Mada City, it became the center for Kelos System industry. The immense amount of space and opportunities for industrial research and development made it a prime target for major corporations and manufacturers. Millions of jobs were created with this expansion and the city has consistently grown since.

Society[]

Mostly a blue collar demographic, the cities of Anul are full of factory workers, miners, developers and manufacturers. Most of the schools on the moon are short-range trade schools teaching various skills used in the industrial sector. Although there is not much to do in the blue collar neighborhoods of the Anul biodomes, there is a rather intense nightlife complete with famous bars, clubs, and prostitution rings. Alcohol and drugs are commonly used although the more dangerous drugs are strictly regulated by the PTC.

The people of Anul are working class with nationalism for Crystaldeep and an overall prejudice against non-Kelosians. There are frequent violent hate crimes against Helics and Highlords on Anul and even those Kelosians not born on Crystaldeep are discriminated against. In economic beliefs, Anulians are very progressive but fall back onto grass roots conservatism when regarding their social lives.
