Overview[]

Leverrier is the largest moon-based city in the Kelos System and it lies on the most civilized moon. A mild atmosphere and central location makes it a prime candidate for the trade center of the system. Its military influence does not completely outshine its economic influence, and much of civilized Leverrier is overrun with crime and capitalistic warfare. The city falls under civilized Congressional Space, so the laws are supported and influenced by the Stellar Corps and PTC.

As of the 22150 GST Congressional Census, Leverrier population was 1,203,568. Leverrier is home to Adam's Base, the largest Stellar Corps facility in the Kelos System. It is also the headquarters of Iron Spacelines.

History[]

Founded in 22054 GST, Leverrier was built in the Anadu Planitias, a large rolling open plain toward the equator of the moon. It was originally established as a trade center and military base for the Congress of Crystaldeep. Very quickly it became the popular mecha that it is today.

During its early years of development various crime families settled there as a point of operation independent from nations. They had influence over the construction of biodomes, stations and even the military base. Their network was so solid, one could hardly make any transaction without being connected to the mob in some way.

In the early part of the turn of the century, the PTC attempted to crack down on mafia activity in Loese and was met with not only resistance but all-out warfare. At request with prominent officials in the Stellar Corps, the tactics were slowed down, but various "unwritten" agreements were made between the Congress of Crystaldeep and organized crime. Generally the crime families were permitted to conduct business, but if activity left the city or became in anyway violent, the PTC would step in.

During this truce the PTC has spent forty GI developing a case against some of the largest influences on the moon, the so-called " Modern". The Modern is the collective name for about seven crime families who all operate around Loese with their own set of rules. Although they all meet and keep relationships stable, they all have different territories with different leaderships. Wars have broken out between various mobs in The Modern in the last fifty years and some of them became notoriously bloody.

Built on illegal money, Leverrier became a melting pot of undesirables. The PTC keeps a stern eye on the city, but must act carefully to prevent an all out war against the Congress of Crystaldeep. The Stellar Corps is also highly influenced by The Modern, so PTC is careful also to avoid conflict between Congressional organizations.

During the cultural rise of Leverrier, the military also became an important faction of the city. Adam's Base was built to be the largest Stellar Corps facility in the Kelos System and still holds the title. Over eighty percent of Stellar Corps training is conducted at this facility and include extraterrestrial training and flight training. The base operates almost completely separately from the city, although the cultures often intertwine. The Stellar Corps receives a lot of illegitimate funding from The Modern, so officials are careful to keep the peace. The Congress of Crystaldeep allows this corruption out of necessity. With not enough resources, a weakening alliance, and two wars the Congress cannot be picky about their source of funds.

Geography[]

The primary dome is approximately 1 centipar and 18 millipars high. There are three major domes and over 2,500 smaller ones. A great portion of the city also exists outside biodomes altogether, where the now-popular textile Aturj Weed is grown. Personal biodomes often spot otherwise wide-open rural settlements. The largest rural settlements in the Leverrier region are Frontridge and East Celest.

Leverrier's main dome holds the Leverrier Downtown District, built with nostalgic architecture that is reminiscent of older centuries of Crystaldeep. Little Apal and Leverrier Downtown District are the largest sectors of Leverrier. Smaller neighborhoods of interest is the bohemian Neophyte Garden, Dancer Hill the resedential district, and Smithy District, the industrial area. Adam's Base is also home to Adam's Spaceport, Leverrier's primary spaceport. Another rural and open-air spaceport is just east of East Celest, called Loese Agricultural Spaceport.

In addition to Stellar Corps training at Adam's Base, Leverrier is also home to the Outer Planets University, one of the most prestigious law schools in the Kelos System. Nestled deep in Neophyte Garden, the school has become a poster-child for education and excellence in the modern era.

Politics[]

Built and funded by the Congress of Crystaldeep, it has remained completely independent of private nation control. There are several smaller cities and towns on Loese that are not in Congressional Space, but partly because of the military base and mostly because of The Modern influence, the city has remained completely neutral and protected only by the Stellar Corps and PTC. The Congress of Crystaldeep appoints a Governor of the city to handle the civic duties. This position is supported by a staff of 43 judges, law makers, military officials, educators, and intellectuals. The governor behaves as something like a chairman and facilitates votes between the cabinet on political issues and decisions.
